Our colleague Jens Einert took on another sporting challenge with the Stoneman-Dolomiti, his fifth Stoneman tour.
Jens completed the route in two days on his work bike and received a silver trophy for his efforts. His training? Cycling to work as often as possible.
The Stoneman-Dolomiti – also known as the UR-Stoneman, as it was the first route of its kind – is an outdoor experience in the Dolomites developed by former professional mountain biker Roland Stauder, designed as a challenge for mountain bikers and hikers. The tour leads through the impressive mountain landscape of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The name refers to the traditional cairns that serve as trail markers.
For mountain bikers:
Distance: 115 km with 4,000 metres of elevation gain, running through the Puster Valley in South Tyrol and East Tyrol, among other places.
Procedure: You start at any point on the marked route, collect stamps at checkpoints and try to complete the experience within three days.
Award: Depending on the time taken, you will receive a gold, silver or bronze trophy in the form of a cairn.
